Summer Vacation!
The weekly kids Sunday School program will take a summer vacation this year. That doesn’t mean we stop learning. Watch for our upcoming Family Fun Nights that will include Bible lessons, games, and crafts. And, of course, Vacation Bible School offers weeklong lessons in Jesus’ saving love from July 26-30.

Make a Spiritual Resolution this New Year!
You are invited to join one of the many classes and studies Poke Run offers. Spiritual growth and discipleship are important no matter what your age. Poke Run has classes for everyone. Whether you can quote the Bible chapter and verse or have trouble finding Genesis, you are welcome to try a class.

Academy Class
Sunday 9:30This is the longest running adult class at Poke Run. It meets downstairs in the Academy building and includes a traditional hymn and plenty of fellowship with coffee and pastries beforehand.

Lounge Group
Sunday 9:30
Starting up again on September 14. No pianos or lounge acts here. But there is plenty of discussion of how to handle life and its transitions with God at the center.

Discipleship 101

A new adult discussion group will be starting Sept. 14 at 9:30 in West Wayside. Join us as we try to figure out what it means to follow Christ in today's world. The first topic is spirituality, a word that is used today in pop culture and religious circles. But what is spirituality? What does spirituality look like in the Bible? Can people be spiritual but not religious? All are welcome to join this discussion.

Poke Run Bible Exploration and Study Groups
Sunday evening at 7 and Monday afternoon at 1 These informal groups meet to reflect upon and discuss God's Words to us in the Bible. You can start anytime.

Kids Classes

Poke Run Church offers classes for children in preschool through high school. The classes teach important and popular Bible stories in a loving and nurturing environment.

You are never too old for Sunday School! Join us September 7 as we kick-off fall worship and education at Poke Run Church. Worship times are 8:30 and 11:00 AM. Sunday School starts at 9:30 AM for everyone.

Good Friday Event

Jesus Is Our Savior

Poke Run Church shared the story of Jesus Christ's redeeming love with a special Good Friday program for children. This fun-filled day included a Jerusalem marketplace that featured pottery making, crafts and even some candy recipes that Jesus and his disciples may have tried!

Students heard the Bible descriptions of Jesus and acted out parts of Jesus ministry in a special drama center. The day ended with a seder meal, a time when families gather around the table on the night of Passover to read the story of the Israelite exodus from Egypt.

Kids bring games to Poke Run Church for an evening of fun.

Kids from the Poke Run community brought their own board games and snacks for fellowship. Future games nights are being planned watch for details.

The Many Colored Coat

Poke Run students talked about the story of Joseph in the Old Testament--the guy who got the fancy coat, not the guy who got the surprise of his life when he was told that his fiance was going to give birth to the child of God.

Joseph had the gift of dreams. Poke Run students have the gift of creativity and showed it when making the coat. Katlin has the gift of courage becasue she actually wore the coat in public when the group went to see the Pittsburgh Musical Theater production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Youth Serve at the Men’s Shelter

Four Poke Run Youth helped to provide dinner for thirty homeless men at the shelter at East Liberty Presbyterian Church. They spent the afternoon baking cookies for the dessert. They also served pork sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, and gumbo.

The men’s shelter is run by the East End Cooperative Ministries. EECM is an inter-faith human services organization dedicated to helping the hungry, the homeless and the at-risk children and youth in Pittsburgh's East End.

Poke Run will be providing dinner again on Saturday, December 29. If you would like to opportunity to be involved or provide food, please let us know!We will also be dropping off the Shoebox donations for the men.

Be The Change

Poke Run Youth from 7th – 12th hope to be the change they wish to see in the world. They plan and participate in a variety of fun, spiritual, educational, and mission based activities. In addition to their weekly class from 9:30-10:30 on Sunday, high school students have attended movies, participated in the 30-Hour Famine, and run The Great Race. Students learn to love God and their neighbor through their experiences at Poke Run.
